Art can take many forms and in Wellington it’s coming to life and walking around on stage at the amazing World of Wearable Art (WOW®).
The WOW® competition has bedazzled audiences since it was conceived in Nelson in 1987. Designers from all over the world now flock to Wellington, for a chance to show off their creative talents.
WOW® defies convention. Using human bodies as a canvas, anything wearable can find its way on to the stage. Designers flex their creative muscles and sew, paint, and solder garments created from a wealth of materials – from glass to wood and other unusual mediums.
The 2016 competition had seven themed sections that pushed designers to their creative limits. In the ‘Creative Excellence’ category, designers were asked to create a work of wearable art based on one of the Surrealism, Cubism, or Expressionism movements.
Sit back and expect the unexpected.
